2011 cia Award Winners Announced

　　The Institute of Internal Auditors recently recognized recipients of the 2011 CIA Awards for those who took and passed the CIA? exam during the year with the highest scores, becoming the latest members of an exclusive group of IA practitioners.

　　The top three who scored the highest results on the first three exam modules and who passed the test in their first attempt were called out for their individual achievements. Robert Bruce Marsden, CIA, USA, received the William S. Smith “Gold” award; Douglas Scott Schmidt, CIA, USA, received the A.J. Hans Spoel “Silver” award; and ?mer Kerem Se?kin, CIA, CCSA, Turkey, received the William S. Smith “Bronze” award.

　　Additionally, the Dr. Glenn Sumners award is presented annually to the highest scoring student, and 2011’s winner was Jeffrey S. Littlejohn, CIA, USA.

　　The next 10 high-score recipients received special recognition with a Certificate of Excellence. They were Chia-Ling Chou, CIA, Taiwan; Yuan Dong, CIA, China; Sonia Gupta, CIA, India; Deborah Hoffman, CIA, CRMA, USA; Farida Maya Kintanar, CIA, USA; Maria Mekic, CIA, Switzerland; Guilherme Rios, CIA, Brazil; Michael Saniel, CIA, Philippines; Ronald Stavins, CIA, USA; and Ka-On Tong, CIA, Canada.

　　Hoffman, who serves as the director of standards and guidance at The IIA’s Global Headquarters in Altamonte Springs, Fla., USA, said she was surprised and pleased to have received notification of her placement in the Top 10. She had been a practicing auditor for several years and had just sat for the exam the summer prior to coming on board with The IIA. Hoffman said it was the switch to computer-based testing (CBT) that prompted her to decide to take the exam, noting that it was more accessible to busy professionals.

　　Another 50 top scorers were awarded a Certificate of Honor. The Institute of Internal Auditors recognizes the hard work, dedication and impressive accomplishments of these individuals.
